It is the matter of great pleasure for me to note that a book entitled " Human Health, Diseases and the Environment ( dissemination of research findings ) and Emerging and re-emerging diseases-update" in two parts has been prepared by Professor Emeritus Dr. A. K. M. Kafiluddin, NIPSOM, Bangladesh. He has dealt with common human diseases and health aspects which concern the people of Asia and the Pacific in general and Bangladesh in particular. I have an opportunity to go through the contents of this book, which consist of two parts. The part I deals with research findings / recommendations, which were sponsored by WHO. The part II deals with updated topics on emerging and reemerging diseases. He has made researches on noise pollution ( acoustic mechanisms and remedies ), climate change, child health ( neonatal to puberty ) tropical diseases like Visceral leishmaniasis, background studies on the arsenic problem, filariasis, dengue, diabetes mellitus, leprosy and ill effects of pesticides on life, schistosomiasis, nutrition and development and obesity.
The insight and intellect reflected in the treatment of the problems by Dr. Kafiluddin will certainly inspire other workers in the medical profession and also these cases will benefit people of this region. This work will exist as a source of information for researchers in the healthcare systems in Asian countries and also as an example of earnest devotion in the healthcare disciplines of our country.
I wish that the author can have early publication of this work with the cooperation of different agencies such as WHO, ICDDR'B etc.
